Application of a viscoelastic device

  • during surgeries on the anterior and posterior segments of the eye
  • for intra- and extracapsular cataract extraction with or without IOL implantation
  • for intraocular tissue protection
    • Tissue protection: Corneal endothelium
  • for volume substitution (volume replacement)
    • Provides space maintenance for a stable anterior chamber
  • for wetting and maintaining clear vision
    • To maintain corneal transparency and improve vision during surgical procedures

Cohesive

  • long molecular chains
  • high molecular weight
  • easy to aspirate as a whole

Dispersive

  • short molecular chains
  • difficult to aspirate
  • residual viscoelastic media might remain in the eye

Viscosity is a measure of the thickness of a fluid.

→ High viscosity means thicker (less flowable) fluid

→ Low viscosity means thinner (more flowable) fluid

Pe-Ha-Luron F 1.0% biofermented sodium hyaluronate (NaH)

NaH (biofermented)

  • Biofermented (Streptococcus bacteria)
  • Endogenous substance
  • Supports cell and tissue stabilisation, metabolism regulation and wound healing
  • Hyaluron binding receptors on the corneal endothelium
  • The higher the viscosity, the thicker (less flowable) the fluid → dispersive becomes cohesive

Characteristics:

  • High molecular weight
  • High viscosity
  • No cooling required
  • High cohesion for easy irrigation / aspiration
  • No inflammatory or immunological reactions
  • Very good protection of endothelial cells
  • Sterile
  • CE certified
